From 1990 to 1993, Karyn G. Murphree studied at The University of Alabama where she was a member of AdFed, involved with their award-winning advertising team, and worked several internships in her fields of advertising and graphic design. In December of 1993, Karyn received a bachelor of arts degree in advertising from the University's College of Communication and graduated cum laude.
After graduation, Karyn worked for 10 years in the printing industry as creative director and head of the graphics and electronic prepress departments at Computer Link Corporation. The company was later bought by Hart Intercivic, a Texas based company. In 2001, Hart made the decision to consolidate printing facilities and close their plant in Tuscaloosa. Karyn continued to work a year with management after all production personnel were laid off. It was during this time, KGMdesigns was conceptualized.
In January 2003, Hart closed its Tuscaloosa doors for good and KGMdesigns was officially born. Simultaneously, Karyn worked as graphic designer for a Tuscaloosa publishing house responsible for Tuscaloosa Business Ink and The Strip. She very much enjoyed her time with the newspaper, but it was short-lived due to her husband's obtaining his Ph.D. and securing a job in north Alabama. In May 2003, Karyn and her husband, Jerry (more frequently referred to as Jay), moved to Huntsville. Karyn continues to work for the Tuscaloosa newspaper on a freelance basis and continues to gain other KGMdesigns clients.
In her free time, Karyn enjoys learning, reading, travel, cooking, kung fu, listening to Steely Dan, digital photography, sky-diving (so she only did it once she still ENJOYED it!), friends and family. She detests all sports, unless you count "speed scrabble." She and her husband, who is an electrical engineer, are enjoying time with their two young sons.
